Centuries ago, our reality collided with the world of stories and dreams in a cataclysm known as the Confluence, an event that profoundly reshaped the Earth as we know it. Beings from this world suddenly roamed amongst us, and changed the way we lived. Since then, we’ve formed alliances with them, and together we patiently rebuilt a new civilization.

With peace and prosperity now secured, it’s finally time for us to rediscover the altered world around us. Six leading Factions have chosen their heroes to lead courageous expeditions beyond the gates, where the Tumult, a remnant of the Confluence of old, still mutates everything in its wake.

Altered, the upcoming trading card game (TCG), introduces a groundbreaking approach to card collection, aiming to alleviate the frustration of hunting down rare cards found in traditional booster packs. Developed by Régis Bonnessée of Equinox, the game embraces digital rights trading, allowing players to print desired cards on demand.

The Team behind Altered comprises industry veterans from studios like Blizzard and seasoned Magic: The Gathering players, including a former MTG World Champion. They seek to evoke a nostalgic ’nineties feeling› in TCGs, aiming to restore the element of surprise lost in modern games.

Gameplay draws inspiration from MTG and The Witcher’s Gwent, featuring a unique mechanic where players compete for control over biome cards rather than directly attacking each other. The game emphasizes exploration and competition without the standard of depicting violence.

Altered boasts diverse factions and characters, set in a world shaped by a mysterious event known as the Confluence. Players align with factions like Muna, Ordis, Yzmir, Axiom, Lyra, and Bravos, each offering distinct gameplay experiences.

Physical cards come with QR codes for lore and collection tracking. The accompanying app facilitates deck-building, collection management, and serves as a marketplace for card trading. Unlike other TCGs, Altered allows players to buy and sell digital rights to cards, enabling unlimited printing for a small fee.

Unique cards, generated using an algorithm similar to Keyforge, offer variant gameplay experiences. Equinox aims to address availability issues seen in other TCGs by offering a solution to high prices and limited availability through digital rights and on-demand printing.

The game’s app is optional, with card registration necessary only for official tournaments. Equinox made a single Kickstarter campaign which was the most successful in all of Trading Card Games history on Kickstarter to fund the game’s initial release, with subsequent expansions scheduled every four months.
